Spirit in the Machine Age

This is a scientific age, a machine age. It is easy to lose touch with non-material side of reality, to come to the belief that nothing matters except what we can see, use, eat, hear, abuse, or pollute.

Yet for longer than the written history of humanity, there have been those who expressed belief in the spiritual. Ancient cave paintings, carven images, written legends of wandering tribes, stories of renunciates, meditators, warrior religions, and modern religions (with precepts written on golden tablets that have never been seen), the belief in the non-physical has long been part of this world.

I chose the domain name spirit.com back in 1994, when the Internet was still unknown by the masses of people who use it today. At the time I chose spirit, I thought to help myself remember Spirit every time I entered my email address.

I have received many requests for the domain name, most frivilous, and a few serious. The frivilous include some realtors, some black brothers, a South African investment bank. Serious requests are those who actually have the word 'spirit' as part of an organization's title, such as the band Spirit, or Spirit Car Rental.

But I have no intention of selling or parting with spirit.com. I did not chose this domain name to sell it, or to profit from it, but rather to symbolize something to myself, as well as to anyone who thinks about the words they use.

SPIRIT.COM is not for sale.
